Manila, Philippines
Oh the Philippines… This was one for the books, thats for sure.
After a long travel day from Japan, we arrived in Manila the day before the show. We were greeted by the promoters of the show, and about 100 screaming fans. The energy these kids had was only a small preview of what was ahead. We made our way to the hotel, checked in and settled in.
I ventured down to the lobby for lunch...

Euro-trip 2011
Festival season. That time of year where you play in the middle of a dirt field miles and miles from civilianization. You get to see your favorite artists on big stages and the workload is normally pretty light…
It all started just like any other overseas tour. Meet everyone at the airport, and hop on a plane to Europe. It was just another 7-hour flight to start another year of summer festivals....

Doing the Dirty Work
Wow, long time no update.
Life goes by pretty quick when you’re doing what you love every day. It’s hard to believe that my last update was back in February! I’ve gotten to see quite a bit of the world this year. Thanks to my iPhone, I was able to track everywhere I’ve been since January. It’s really quite impressive.
But Now, let’s take a trip back in...
Hi.
I’ve been neglecting this thing for a while. Look for a new post soon.

Paris.
Paris marks the conclusion of the European leg of our trip. It’s been fun so far, and I can’t wait to see what the UK leg of this trip has in store.
Here’s a few pictures from my Eiffel Tower trip:
What Makes You Like Music?
This has been a question I’ve had for some time now- what makes you like the music that you like? I set off on a mission a few months ago to figure out how people think, and figure out what makes them like what they like.
When asked the above question, most people couldn’t give me a direct answer to the question. They could give me reasons why they liked certain songs, but none of...
How Superbowl Audio Works
There’s a lot that goes into the 15 minute performance you see on TV. It’s a whole lot more than a single person turning a few knobs and hoping for the best. There are 3 primary positions- The stadium audio engineer, the monitor engineer, and the broadcast engineer.
The Stadium audio engineer controls everything the people hear in the stadium. There is a completely separate audio...

Brazil in a nutshell
I’m sitting here in our hotel room overlooking Sao Paulo as the afternoon rain begins to fall. It’s hard to believe that this trip has already come to an end. Less than 2 weeks ago we were arriving in Brazil for our first time, and had no idea what was about to happen.
This trip ended up being one of the most fun, and tiring trips I’ve ever taken with the band. Running on 4...
3 Days to go.
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already that time again. Time really does fly these days. I feel like I was just getting home a few days ago, even though it’s already been 2 months! While I have enjoyed being home, I am certainly ready to hit the road again.
I’m headed to Brazil. I never thought I’d be able to say that in my life. But then again, I never thought I’d...
Bumps in the road
Edit: After the numerous phone calls and text messages I got within minutes of posting this(I guess I’m not funny), I’d like to add this:
PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING IS FOR YOUR READING PLEASURE ONLY. KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON.
Sometimes life throws you a curve ball. You can’t always expect everything to go your way in life. I went in for a routine checkup at the doctor’s...

Out with the old, in with the new.
Wow, what a year. It’s hard to believe that 2010 is already coming to a close. It feels like I was just celebrating a new year 11 months ago. …Oh wait.
2010 was an interesting year to say the least. Some interesting tours, and interesting times both at home and on the road. I met a lot of awesome people, went to some amazing places and saw some great things along the way. The year...

Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all. Wishing everyone the absolute best Holiday Season this year. Spend it right with family, friends and everyone close to you. Hopefully everyone’s been good and gets what they wanted for Christmas!
Tumblr fail.
Tumblr is slowly becoming as reliable as twitter. This is unacceptable!
Just another day in the life
We wrapped up the “My Small Package Tour” a few weeks ago. It was a rather interesting experience to say the least. I learned a lot on that tour, and was forced to deal with a lot of less then ideal situations. What really blew my mind on this tour was the sound systems in most of the venues. Or should I say the lack of sound systems!
We’ve played small rooms overseas in...

Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving in the company of all their family/friends. Eat some good food, relax, and watch some football!

A new look on life
I’ve never been one to take life too seriously. I’m the kind of person who likes to have fun, and enjoy my life. I love my friends, family and my job. I like to live every day of my life to it’s fullest, and make the best of every opportunity given to me. I’ve never really let anything bother me. Life’s too short to get all stressed out and bothered over the little...

Taking a step back
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been one to work my ass off to accomplish a goal. I’d get in this mindset that would not allow me to fail, and never give up. It’s what has gotten me where I am today. The drive, the determination and the will to go that extra mile for someone or something.
It wasn’t until recently that I actually took a step back from my life...
Tour so far
10 days into tour, and everything is smooth sailing. This tour has actually been a good bit more fun then everyone was expecting. Aside from a few minor technical problems here and there, this has been a very low stress tour. The amount of gear we’re carrying has been simplified and condensed down to a single bus trailer. It’s quite nice after a year of packing full semi trucks!

Gearing up for tour...
Yup, it’s that time of year again. After a month off, I can only be excited to hit the road once again for another USA headlining tour. Only this time, it’s not your average club tour. ATL has decided to shrink things down into what has been dubbed the “My Small Package” Tour. It’s an intimate, sweaty, up close and personal rock show. This is a no thrills, no...
Songs that your band should not cover
So, you and your friends want to start a band? Cool! Covers can be fun to play, but here’s a list of covers that should really just be left to the original artist to perform.
-A Day To Remember: The Downfall of us All
-B.O.B: Airplanes feat. Hayley Williams
-Paramore: Misery Business
-Anything Lady Gaga
-Journey: Don’t stop Believing (Though ATL does this one pretty well)

Tumblr = fail
So, what’s the Tumblr version of the twitter fail whale? Tumblr seems to be just as reliable as Twitter!
ERROR: SERVERS OVERLOADED
WELL, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
I got my name!
After some intense negotiations, my tumblr is officially my name. Thanks to Clare for giving it up. Go follow her on tumblr, cause she’s cool, I guess. :) http://smotheredinlove.tumblr.com/

I'd like to use my real name here

Finding Success as a tech in the Music Business
“How do I get into this business?”
I get asked this question more often than most, and while specifics may vary from person to person, the overall response remains the same. Whether it’s the audio side of things, lighting, management or anything in between, there is a common trend that follows.
A Parent’s reply would more than likely be “go to college and get a degree.”...

Welcome to the home of Evan Kirkendall. Well, one of my many homes anyway. This will be reserved for tour blogging, random shit and god knows(or jebus for the non religious) what else. I’ll be posting here when time allows, and as I have interesting(or not) things to say.
Enjoy!
