Gearing up for tour…
Yup, it’s that time of year again. After a month off, I can only be excited to hit the road once again for another USA headlining tour. Only this time, it’s not your average club tour. ATL has decided to shrink things down into what has been dubbed the “My Small Package” Tour. It’s an intimate, sweaty, up close and personal rock show. This is a no thrills, no production tour. Back to the basics for everyone. It’s a chance to see ATL in a small club, playing just the hits. All the hits. It’ll be a fun tour, and a challenge for me- nothing like trying to make small clubs sound good.

My “toy” selection has really decreased for this tour. Normally with ATL, we carry our own console at FOH, and we have the band’s LS9-32 on deck for monitors. It’s nice having the same desk every day, and makes things sound a lot more consistent. We’ll also carry our own speakers from time to time, but that’s only when the band is feeling really nice. But, for this run, I’m left with nothing.
My solution? About $7,000 worth of processing gear, some wireless routers and 2 tablet laptops:

The dolby lake will hopefully give me a fighting chance to squeeze whatever I can out of the less than stellar PA’s at some of these clubs. The tablet running studio manager will allow me to mix FOH from ATL’s LS9. So, if a club’s FOH console is a 1970’s 16 channel Peavey desk, well, I don’t have to use it. This means a better sounding show, even in the toughest conditions.

Last day of rehearsals is tomorrow, and then we hit the road! Hopefully I’ll see you out on the road this time around. If you’re in town, don’t be afraid to say hi!
