Doing the Dirty Work

Wow, long time no update.

Life goes by pretty quick when you’re doing what you love every day. It’s hard to believe that my last update was back in February! I’ve gotten to see quite a bit of the world this year. Thanks to my iPhone, I was able to track everywhere I’ve been since January. It’s really quite impressive.

But Now, let’s take a trip back in time(well, to March anyway).

………..

All Time Low recently finished out their largest UK headlining tour to date. It was quite an unreal experience for all of us. 2 of the most memorable nights were at the Apollo in Manchester, and the Brixton Academy in London. Manchester actually set the record for the loudest ATL show to date for me, coming in at 122dB when the band walked on stage. It was unbelievable. The London show was just plain big.

Here’s the money shot from the night:

The USA portion of the tour has been a lot of fun as well. It’s been one of my favorite tours that we have ever done. Packed venues every night, and a lot of fun toys for me to play with.

But, that’s enough for tour updates. Since it has been quite a while since I’ve updated, I figured that I would post some “behind the scenes” pictures from this tour. I’m going to give you a brief tour of the band’s gear on stage. It’s really quite cool.

First, we’ll start with stage left. Dan Nickleski’s monitor world:

Dan controls everything that the band hears. He sends a mix of instruments to each band member, based on what they want to hear. The band members all wear advanced versions of ipod earbuds. They are custom molded to their ears to give them the best sound possible.

Moving forward to mid stage left. Ian Planet’s guitar world, and Alex Grieco’s drum world:

Ian Planet takes care of tuning guitars for Alex & Zack, while Grieco tunes Rian’s drums and looks after him while he plays.

Here’s a birds eye view of Rian’s drum kit:

The coolest thing about ATL’s guitar rig is that it makes no noise! We spent a lot of time researching and figuring out how to get a killer guitar tone without having a super loud guitar cabinet on stage. The solution was a box that acts like a speaker. It eliminates the need for a guitar cabinet on stage, and it just sounds awesome. Here’s Ian’s rack for Alex’s guitar, and Zack’s bass.

(3 wireless units for the guitars, bass, and acoustic, 2 speaker simulators, and Zack’s bass sansamp.)

Moving stage right to Danny Kurily’s guitar world:

Danny takes care of Jack during the live shows. He tunes his guitars, and picks up his mic stand.

And finally, Front of House, in my opinion the most important world(I might be a little biased):

This is where the magic happens. Jeff Maker on the left controls the lights, and I’m on the right controlling the sound. Everything you hear, and see during the live shows is completely controlled by us.

And there you have it. All Time Low’s gear in a nutshell.

Until next time…
